Here at Snowy Mountain Angus, we usually only choose a handful of sires that we breed to at any time. Part of this is due to the size of our operation, and part of it is because we stick with what works. We don’t dabble in “anything and everything” or chase trends. Maternal and feed efficiency traits are what our entire herd is based on, and every bull we use has to check all the boxes for us before we breed to them.

Feed efficiency is extremely important to us. If you see our cattle in person, you might think they are pampered- but the truth is, our cattle aren’t given creep feed or anything like that. They are feed efficient enough to hold their own on the pasture grass that grows here on the ranch. Even in difficult years where heat and drought stress our cattle, they still manage to hold true to their body shape due to their ability to efficiently utilize the feed they have access to.

We have big expectations for our herd sires and expect their sons to produce excellent progeny for our customers. If a bull born at Snowy Mountain Angus doesn’t check all the boxes, he isn’t part of our sale. We won’t sell a bull we wouldn’t use in our own herd.
